Agnolo Ambrosini called Poliziano (1454/1494) one of the most important poets in the Lorenzo the Magnificent's court.
Pearl of 14th century, Montepulciano is one of the most characteristic and best kept medieval towns of the Val di Chiana Senese, in Tuscany.
It is located on top of a hill between Val di Chiana and the gorgeous Val d’Orcia. The latter, in 2004, was recognized by UNESCO as part of the World Heritage for the breathtaking landscapes celebrated by Renaissances’ painters.
Originally Etruscan, Montepulciano preserve an 8th Century fortress and medieval churches and palazzos.
It's an ideal base for discovering the wonderful Tuscany with Pienza, Montalcino, Chiusi, Bagno Vignoni (hot springs water) all between 14/35km of scenic drives, Siena 65 km and Florence 110 Km.
Located in a 13th Century well preserved building in the center of Montepulciano, the apartment retains the original features such as wooden beamed ceiling and a working open fireplace. To this end, I have to highlight that this is one of the only two apartments in the town that still have the original 14th Century oak wood flat beams.
If you love artworks and are looking for a quite, relaxing and pure vacation, you should come and try this lovely accommodation!
Only few minutes walking from the apartment there is the main street, the Corso, from which you can easily walk up to Piazza Grande and admire the Cathedral, the Town Hall and a lot of beautiful 14th Century's palaces, or, othewise, you can dip down across the several narrows streets enjoying the beautiful palaces, churches and typical shops...
The medieval centre is permitted only to a very few cars, this makes your vacation more relaxing and peaceful.
Chiefly known for its wine, Montepulciano offers excellent restaurants, café’s, wine-bars and shops.
You cannot miss The Caffe' Poliziano for a very special breakfast overviewing the Val di Chiana valley. This is an antique cafe’ in Liberty style opened in 1868 and located in the historic centre of Montepulciano, just few minutes walking from the apartment.
It is classified among the 100 Italian historic cafés.
In July and August the town becomes a stage of live festivals.
During the last two weeks of July, Montepulciano becomes a live stage of artistical performances with the International Arts Workshop.
The second week-end of August, the local 'Bruscello' is performed on the forecourt of the Cathedral.
Finally, the last Sunday of August, on the narrow street of Montepulciano, is performed the 'Bravio delle Botti', a spectacular barrel race where eight Contradas (divisions) of Montepulciano are competing for a painted cloth banner (the "Bravio").
